Apparel Girls Designer
Job Family Carhartt Design
The Girls Designer will partner closely with the Sr. Director of Design to bring the brand vision to life through innovative, trend‑right, and brand‑right styles, prints, and graphics. This role is responsible for contributing to the development of seasonal product lines from initial concept through final handoff, with a strong focus on fit, fabric, and finish.
The ideal candidate will proactively identify emerging fashion trends and new business opportunities, ensuring the brand remains at the forefront of design within this category while maintaining the appropriate price point to drive profitable margins.
Success in this role requires strong cross‑functional collaboration skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective partnerships within the design team and across interdependent departments.
Primary Responsibilities
Create seasonal product lines – from market research, mood board creation, designing, merchandising graphics and fit.
Responsible for researching/shopping the market in order to identify new trends/inspiration, fabrics, techniques, etc.
Designs, sketches and creates spec sheets/mac packs for every style within that product line to include all technical information clearly detailed to hand off to Product Development
Create and maintain seasonal merch pages
Work closely with the Sr. Director of Design on merchandising and recolor graphics as needed
Work with Sr. Director of Design /Graphic artist to create and/or recolor all over conversational prints
Attends all first proto and production fittings
Adheres to time and action calendar
Specialized Knowledge / Technical Skills
Knowledge of Adobe Suites: Proficient in Illustrator & Photoshop
Strong knowledge of garment construction and textiles
Microsoft Office
Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills
Ability to multi‑task and prioritize in a fast pace environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to set a creative tone and to inspire ideas/new concepts; ability to conceptually visualize and build a line
Excellent presentation skills
Education College degree in Fashion Design
5+ years design experience (Children’swear experience is a plus)
