Senior Assistant Director of University Events

Reporting to the Senior Director of Special Events, the Senior Assistant Director for University Events is responsible for assisting with the development and execution of all signature events for Fordham University. This position facilitates the production of events that foster involvement, recognition, cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising experiences for donors, trustees, the President’s Council, as well as celebration opportunities for the University Community. This position helps coordinate the University’s largest events, including Commencement, Convocation and Town Halls. This position requires local travel within New York City and to the Bronx campus as well as evening and weekend hours.
Essential Functions
Supports the development of concepts, themes, formats, procedures and timelines for major events including meetings, lectures, conferences, receptions, dinners, etc.
Facilitates venue, consultant and vendor negotiations to secure rates that enhance budgets, including but not limited to catering, entertainment, lighting/audio, staging, photography, security, facilities and custodial‑related services.
Works with consultants and vendors prior to and during the event to ensure flawless efficiency.
Records budget expenditures and facilitates financial reporting to internal departments.
Manages and edits content for event correspondence, collateral materials, and web in collaboration with marketing colleagues.
Assists with post‑event coordination including debrief meetings, financial reporting and data transfer.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 4 years of experience in event planning and execution.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Skilled in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and events‑related software (e.g. check‑in and seating apps).
Excellent time management, organization, and multitasking abilities.
Detail‑oriented with a focus on quality and client satisfaction.
Demonstrated quick and effective problem‑solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with customer relations/management databases.
Experience with hybrid or virtual event execution and related platforms (e.g., Zoom Webinar).
Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Monday.com).
Minimum Starting Salary $78,000
Maximum Starting Salary $85,000
Note Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
