Our unique expertise and capabilities in technology, data science and healthcare enable the entire healthcare ecosystem to drive better health outcomes.**Description** As Director, Head of Cloud Platform, you will lead the strategy, architecture, and operations of Verily’s cloud infrastructure powering our precision health platforms. You will be responsible for building and operating secure, scalable, cost-efficient, and highly reliable multi-cloud environments that support regulated healthcare workloads, AI/ML systems, and global product expansion. This role combines deep technical leadership with organizational and operational excellence. You will oversee cloud infrastructure, reliability engineering, platform automation, observability, disaster recovery, and cost optimization while partnering closely with Product Engineering, Security, Compliance, Data Science, and Finance. You will shape Verily’s long-term cloud strategy and ensure our platform scales sustainably as we expand our product portfolio and enter new regulated markets.# **Responsibilities*** Define and execute Verily’s multi-cloud platform strategy across GCP, AWS, and other environments as needed. Establish architectural standards and governance models that enable scalable, secure, multi-region, highly available systems. Own the long-term cloud roadmap and drive adoption of modern platform engineering and self-service infrastructure capabilities* Oversee high-availability cloud infrastructure supporting production healthcare and AI workloads. Establish and scale SRE best practices, including SLAs, SLOs, and operational metrics. Ensure robust observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes, and own disaster recovery, business continuity, and multi-region resiliency strategy.* Embed security and compliance by design across cloud architecture and operations. Partner closely with Security and Compliance to support HIPAA, FISMA, FedRAMP, and other applicable regulatory frameworks. Ensure strong infrastructure controls, access governance, and continuous audit readiness aligned with regulated healthcare standards.* Lead infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automation initiatives using industry best practices. Enable scalable, agile workflows that support high-velocity development within regulated environments. Drive continuous improvements in deployment speed, environment consistency, and overall operational maturity.* Lead cloud cost optimization strategy, budget forecasting, and financial governance across cloud environments. Implement FinOps best practices, ensuring clear usage visibility, accountability, and effective consumption controls at scale.* Build, scale, and lead a high-performing Cloud Platform organization. Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and operational excellence. Oversee headcount planning, budgeting, and vendor management, and partner with Director+ and VP-level stakeholders to align technical strategy with company priorities.# **Qualifications**Minimum Qualifications* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or* equivalent practical experience.* 12+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or site reliability roles.* 5+ years of experience leading engineering managers and multi-team organizations.* Expert-level knowledge of at least two major public cloud providers (GCP or AWS* strongly preferred; Azure desirable).* Proven experience scaling cloud infrastructure for high-availability, production-grade systems.* Demonstrated success driving cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices at scale.* Deep understanding of SRE principles, observability systems, and incident response frameworks.Preferred Qualifications* Experience supporting AI/ML infrastructure and data-intensive workloads in cloud* environments.* Experience designing multi-region architectures and disaster recovery strategies.* Experience operating in regulated environments (e.g., healthcare, financial services, or similar).* Familiarity with healthcare regulatory standards such as HIPAA, FISMA and FedRAMP.* Experience implementing infrastructure automation and self-service platform capabilities.* Strong executive communication skills and demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership.Qualified applicants must not require employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future for employment in the United States.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $216,500 - $324,500 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
