Position Summary

The Executive Director of Technology (EDT) of the district leads a department focused on using technology to enhance student learning and positively affect district operations.

The EDT is accountable for defining and delivering the Information Technology (IT) strategy and capabilities across the organization. This includes data analytics, infrastructure, security, technical services, large scale project development, and selection of and implementation of critical software systems.

The EDT should have the ability to build strong and productive relationships with all building and district leaders.

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Business Services

Supervises: All District 115 Technology Department Personnel

Work Year: 12-months

Essential Functions

  • Leads the district's efforts to ensure best practices in cyber security.
  • Assist program leaders in technology efforts to address educational issues and decisions with their stakeholders using innovative strategies and sources.
  • Reports to the Superintendent or designee on a regular basis on accomplishments, progress, and to maximize efficiency, consistency, innovation, and impact.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships across District 115 departments, schools, and with/between district partners.
  • Prioritizes the work of the technology staff by developing a long‑term technology plan that is informed by the goals of the district and the needs of the staff, students, and parents.
  • Explores new technologies for future planning and potential implementation by leveraging vendor relationships, professional development, and professional publications.
  • Develops an understanding of district systems (e.g., curriculum, instruction, assessment, copiers, finance, fees, facilities, phones, transportation, security, food service) in order to provide technological leadership to support each area/department.
  • Recruits, develops, and retains expert staff who understand how technology enhances teaching and learning.
  • Facilitates committees that gather feedback and disseminate information from various constituencies about the effective use of technology.
  • Monitors state and national standards, benchmarks, and frameworks for technology literacy, as well as emerging and changing technology to support all layers of the organization.
  • Develops and manages budgets, both annually and for long‑range planning.
  • Forecasts and tracks anticipated expenditures for print services and technology services.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains processes for technology procurement, deployment, and maintenance that includes clearly defined requirements and evaluation, while building strong vendor relationships.
  • Directs, coordinates, and ensures implementation of all tasks related to technical, infrastructure, standards, and integration of technology into every facet of district operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in technology, educational technology, business, or a related field required
  • 5+ years of advanced technology leadership experience in a complex educational or business setting, with significant strategic planning, project management, process improvement experience preferred
  • Managerial/leadership experience including team leadership, staff evaluation, long‑range planning, budget development and assessment of operational effectiveness and workflow efficiency

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience

Job related experience within specialized fields with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Experience in schools is preferred.

Education

Master's degree in technology, educational technology, business, or a related field

Preferred Certificates, Licenses (or Equivalent)

Certifications in Networking (CCNA, CCNP)

Starting at $118,00.00 plus administrative benefits
