The Market Director serves as a senior operational and design leader responsible for the performance, coordination, and growth of the Education and Public Sector market in the Tampa region. Reporting to the Market Leader, this role ensures consistent, high-quality architectural delivery while driving operational excellence, financial performance, client satisfaction, and strategic market expansion.

This position requires a licensed Architect with extensive experience delivering K-12, Higher Education, and Independent School projects. The ideal candidate combines strong design leadership with business acumen, financial oversight capability, and the ability to cultivate long-term client relationships within the public‑sector environment.

Key Responsibilities Market & Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the Market Leader to execute strategic growth initiatives within the Tampa Education market.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities across K-12, Higher Education, Independent Schools, and broader public‑sector sectors.
  • Support annual business planning, budgeting, and revenue forecasting processes.
  • Represent the market in internal leadership meetings and act as a proxy for the Market Leader when required.

Operational & Delivery Oversight

  • Oversee daily project operations to ensure delivery on time, within budget, and aligned with scope and quality expectations.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including revenue forecasts, backlog, utilization, project profitability, and overall portfolio health.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure adherence to contracts, public procurement requirements, and agency standards.
  • Implement best practices in project delivery, QA/QC, documentation standards, and risk management.
  • Escalate operational risks and client concerns to executive leadership as appropriate.

Design & Technical Leadership

  • Provide architectural leadership to ensure strong design outcomes and technical rigor across project teams.
  • Maintain high standards for documentation, constructability, and compliance.
  • Support innovation and continuous improvement in design methodologies and project execution.

Client Development & Market Growth

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to school districts, universities, and independent schools.
  • Participate in proposal development, pursuit strategy, and interview presentations.
  • Strengthen long‑term client relationships to drive repeat business and strategic account growth.
  • Present to boards, committees, and public stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
  • Lead workforce planning and resource allocation across project teams.
  • Mentor and develop architects and project managers.
  • Partner with HR to support performance management, career development, and succession planning.
  • Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performance culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • Active Registered Architect (RA) licensure.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience within the A/E/C industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership in project delivery, operations, or market‑level oversight.
  • Significant experience delivering K-12 and/or Higher Education projects.
  • Proven experience managing teams, budgets, and project portfolios.
  • Ability to support and expand Educational work within the Tampa region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or advanced certification in Architecture, Operations, or Management.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams across multiple offices or remote environments.
  • Direct exposure to market financial accountability and profit‑center performance.
  • Broader public‑sector experience (municipal, civic, justice, or government projects).

Core Competencies Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of Educational market trends, funding structures, and client expectations.
  • Familiarity with public procurement processes and delivery models.
  • Strong knowledge of architectural project management, QA/QC, and financial performance metrics.
  • Understanding of workforce planning and professional services operations.
