Position Summary

The Director of Business Development oversees the provision of Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service activities within the Marketing Department. This role is responsible for achieving desired utilization of the organization’s continuum of care through the effective application of marketing principles and methods. As a member of the facility management team, the Director of Business Development is actively involved in discussions related to a wide variety of facility issues, including strategic planning, potential growth opportunities, future projects, changes in programming/protocols, recruitment, and retention. The Director manages the facility’s strategic marketing plan, enhances the brand/image, oversees all sales and business development activities, and maintains a productive working relationship with internal departments, communicating issues or potential problems proactively to the CEO and Director of Admissions/Intake.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategically analyze and designate target markets for account managers and territory/account assignments, ensuring that each team member’s expertise and personal style aligns with prospective referral sources.
  • Lead and oversee the development and growth of profitable new business opportunities. Develop and implement marketing strategies to assist the facility in meeting business objectives.
  • Regularly analyze results of referral development calls, evaluate and prioritize referral targets, and modify strategies as needed.
  • Monitor each account manager’s performance against departmental goals, assist in developing individual sales plans, territory management, and routing schedules, and provide coaching, feedback, and retraining as required.
  • Prepare the marketing department’s monthly operating report, utilizing it to monitor success and develop corrective action plans when necessary.
  • Develop and implement programs, projects and activities that enhance the community’s positive perception of the organization and its services, using press releases, seminars, open houses, community education programs, health fairs, and other strategic tools.
  • Coordinate with the Regional Director of Managed Care for all managed care negotiations and annual rate increases. Maintain awareness of facility rates, provide input to the CEO and CFO regarding pricing, and identify opportunities for enhanced pricing and payer contracts.
  • Assist account managers in calling referral sources, probing information, and securing commitments to use facility services.
  • Work with corporate resources to develop, distribute, obtain, and communicate Referral Source Satisfaction Surveys and resulting feedback.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business or Economics preferred.
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience in a related field required; acute care experience preferred. Administrative, managerial or clinical experience is a plus.
  • 5-8 years of knowledge of the behavioral health marketplace, insurance plans, target markets and referral sources; 8-10 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of marketing principles including product, placement, pricing and promotion.
  • Understanding of sales, advertising, social media and online presence.
  • Demonstrated creativity and resourcefulness in developing messaging, news releases, print and collateral material.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
