
Senior Phlebotomist

Job Description
The Phlebotomist assists in performing assigned duties including troubleshooting, training, and providing workflow improvement recommendations.
The role involves collecting, processing, and managing patient specimens while maintaining accuracy and compliance with established laboratory procedures.
The candidate will interact with patients, explain specimen collection procedures clearly, and ensure specimen integrity during handling and transport.
Experience
Experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced laboratory or hospital setting.
Experience handling specimen labeling, centrifuging, and laboratory documentation processes.
Experience working with patient information and laboratory requisition systems.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws and other specimen collection procedures including urine or other samples when required.
Label specimens accurately and perform processing activities such as centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens based on test requirements.
Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures when necessary.
Update patient information and verify laboratory requisition forms with specimen labels to ensure accuracy.
Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
Demonstrate proper venipuncture techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes to ensure proper testing procedures.
Package and prepare specimens for transport following established laboratory protocols.
Store specimen samples at appropriate temperatures and ensure proper handling to maintain specimen integrity.
Comply with safety and regulatory requirements and attend required department training sessions.
Respond to telephone inquiries and assist with laboratory related information when appropriate.

Qualification And Education
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment when required.
High School Diploma or GED.
Relevant experience in laboratory or hospital environments.
Strong attention to detail and adherence to laboratory safety standards.
