Position Overview Our client is seeking a highly driven
National Sales Representative
to develop and grow a multi-state territory. This role is responsible for building a strong book of business, expanding market share, and developing long-term customer partnerships within the steel and broader industrial distribution market.
Based in Houston, this position requires regular travel throughout the assigned territory. The ideal candidate is competitive, relationship-focused, and comfortable negotiating in a fast-moving, market-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Build and grow a book of business through warm leads, cold outreach, referrals, and in-person visits
Develop and maintain strong relationships with purchasing managers, executives, and key decision-makers
Gain deep understanding of customer operations, product applications, and supply chain needs
Prospect and open new accounts within assigned territory
Negotiate pricing and contracts aligned with market conditions and margin objectives
Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and industry pricing
Partner with inside sales and operations to ensure accurate order execution
Coordinate with internal departments including credit, purchasing, production, and logistics
Proactively monitor order status and resolve delivery or quality issues
Maintain CRM records and manage pipeline reporting
Travel regularly within assigned region
Qualifications
3+ years of B2B sales experience preferred
Experience in steel, metals, or an industrial distribution environment strongly preferred
Strong negotiation skills and sound commercial judgment
Ability to manage multiple accounts and prioritize effectively
Excellent communication and relationship-building skillsi
Self-motivated with strong prospecting and territory development ability
Comfortable working in a competitive, fast-paced market
