Overview The primary role of the
Designer
is to perform hands‑on 2‑D and 3‑D design activities and manage related engineering documentation. This position involves coordinating drafting priorities, maintaining accuracy in project packages, and ensuring design feasibility for procurement and manufacturing.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Design & Drafting:
Utilize CAD software (AutoCAD and SolidWorks) to perform 2‑D and 3‑D design tasks.
Project Management:
Prioritize drafting tasks to meet budgeted hours and scheduled deadlines.
Technical Documentation:
Generate part numbers, verify secondary bills of materials (BOM), and translate electronic documents between various formats (e.g., DWG, DXF, STP, PDF).
Collaboration:
Confer with engineering personnel on design modifications and attend project design reviews.
Shop Support:
Assist in developing "As‑Built" drawings by inspecting and measuring completed units in the shop to ensure they match final designs.
Systems Operations:
Perform basic operations within the ERP system.
Qualifications & Skills Required Education and Experience
Education:
Associate's degree or completion of a formal drafting program.
Experience:
3–5 years of CAD experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Software Proficiency:
Competency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office.
Technical Knowledge
Strong understanding of mechanical drafting concepts, practices, and procedures.
Familiarity with welding, machining, and assembly processes.
Knowledge of dimensioning and geometric tolerances.
Core Competencies
Problem Solving:
Ability to proactively analyze problems and implement solutions with minimal direction.
Communication:
Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Adaptability:
Flexibility to change gears quickly in response to shifting project priorities.
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
Understanding of basic hydraulics, electrical systems, piping, and steel fabrication.
Comprehension of P&ID symbology and process flow.
