About The Role The Wardrobe Lead plays a vital support role in the successful execution of the production daily, working closely with the Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager, and the wider creative team. The Wardrobe Lead helps ensure that all wardrobe needs are coordinated daily, contributing to the smooth operation of fittings and show production behind the scenes.
This role will be responsible for a variety of tasking including, but not limited to, supporting backstage operations, assisting with prop and costume care, documenting wardrobe inventory, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of costumes on-site on a weekly basis, supporting the finale during each show, and ensuring all performance elements are properly prepared and reset.
This role is asked to provide their own sewing machine and is welcome to utilize materials from the wardrobe department in the building. All other supplies needed will be purchased or provided.
Responsibilities Pre-Production
Completion of onboarding for operational systems in Google Sheets, Slack, and daily email reporting
Familiarization with Stage Manager Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), including costume inventory management; laundry protocols (spot cleaning and weekly laundering); costume sanitization and care procedures
Overview and understanding of the rehearsal schedule
On-Site Preparations
Successful setup and organization of backstage (BOH) materials, including green room, break areas, and wardrobe spaces
Completion of onsite introductions with design and technical teams
Support spot-cleaning tasks
Assist with routine maintenance of costume pieces
Flag wardrobe items in need of repair during inventory
Label hangers, prepare props, and maintain accessory inventories
Rehearsals
Provide wardrobe fittings and repairs during rehearsal
Organize costume elements for individual cast members before shows
Keep costume-related spaces orderly and ready for quick access
Daily rehearsal space preparation and reset
Serve as liaison between the Stage Manager and performers
Show Execution
Prepare wardrobe items for laundry pickup and re-distribution, ensuring counts are correct
Execute live performances by calling assigned technical cues (lighting and sound) using a radio system shared with SM
Supervise all backstage operations and ensure smooth scene transitions
Monitor and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment
Oversee maintenance and reset of props and set pieces post-show
Ensure proper costume care and maintenance according to the costume care guide
Deliver timely “calls” to cast and crew to ensure punctuality and readiness
Document and report all personnel or operational issues to the Production Director, Show Director, or Creative Director as appropriate
