Summary / Objective The Lead HVAC Installation technician will perform skilled work in the installation of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. They also act as an assistant manager to the HVAC Service Manager and give specific support to our team of Commercial HVAC Installers.
Essential Functions
Helps to run Install jobs for commercial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems including power wiring from load side of disconnect, control wiring, minor gas and condensate piping, refrigerant piping if needed, refrigerant recovery, duct and insulation, evacuation, charging, and test procedures
Sketches transitions and other duct fittings required to complete assigned work
Capable of running a small crew and directing HVAC installation jobs
Helps with the daily scheduling of technicians and answering calls from installers in the field
Requisitions material and supplies from stockroom and vendors
Performs brazing, soldering, pipefitting, and minor fabrication
Establishes plan to complete jobs on time and to meet/beat budget estimates
Coordinates activities of assigned craft workers
Interprets specifications, blueprints, drawings, and job orders
Welds, solders, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, and bonds component parts to assemble products, using hand tools, power tools, and equipment
Installs systems in commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings or work-sites
Works within precise limits and standards of accuracy
Responsibility for high degree of attention required to prevent damage or waste
Works closely with external and/or internal contacts to carry out responsibilities
Maintains and cares for all Company assets including but not limited to tools, trucks, equipment, etc.
Completes all necessary forms and paperwork as directed
Performs other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility YES
Required
5 years of progressive HVAC operational and installation experience in building systems, products and services (HVAC industry) or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience
Some experience doing scheduling for a small group of technicians
Excellent initiative, interpersonal communications skills, and sense of urgency
Specialized knowledge to analyze and solve complex problems
Must possess or obtain personal hand tools
Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills
Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
Must be available, and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned
Work Environment
May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold and dampness
May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust
May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights
Physical Demands
This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs
Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
Travel
May require travel
Preferred
Journeyman card or Masters license
Experience in a Commercial/Industrial work environment
Universal CFC certification
Prior military experience
HS diploma or GED equivalent
