UCSF Health Posted Mar 12 • Full-time • Negotiable • Unknown Strategic Development Job Summary The Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for the UCSF Health Network serves as the senior strategic and business development leader for the UCSF Health Network Business Unit, including community hospitals, physician foundation, ambulatory sites, and affiliate relationships. The role functions as the chief strategy officer, defining, advancing, and executing a cohesive Network Business Unit strategy that supports UCSF Health enterprise priorities while responding to market, growth, and partnership dynamics across the Network. The Vice President partners with Network Business Unit leadership, department chairs and chiefs, operational leaders, and affiliate partners to ensure strategic clarity, alignment, and momentum. The role has primary responsibility for business development, growth strategy, and external partnerships, leading the identification, evaluation, and advancement of new clinical programs and services, geographic expansion, affiliate relationships, and other growth initiatives, while overseeing the ongoing strategic management of existing Network partnerships. The position maintains a pipeline of growth opportunities, addresses affiliate operational and integration issues with internal stakeholders, and ensures new opportunities are rigorously assessed, prioritized, and positioned for execution. The role moves beyond advisory strategy to direct accountability for progress across the full growth cycle. The Vice President also shapes the Network’s strategic planning framework and ensures alignment with UCSF Health’s enterprise strategy and transformation agenda. The role chairs a Network growth committee that advances growth initiatives with discipline, pace, and accountability, and serves as a trusted strategic advisor to senior leadership.

Responsibilities include leading the development and execution of strategic planning and business development initiatives for the UCSF Health Network Business Unit, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and market opportunities; providing executive leadership for growth strategy including affiliate partnerships, geographic expansion, and service line development; overseeing the identification, evaluation, and advancement of new partnership opportunities and the strategic management of existing Network affiliate relationships; and collaborating across clinical, academic, operational, and administrative teams to advance strategic priorities and align with transformation initiatives.

The final salary and offer components are subject to UC policy approvals. Salary placement depends on experience and internal equity within this position at UCSF. The salary range for this position is $400,000-$500,000 (Annual Rate). Department Description The UCSF Health Network Business Unit brings UCSF care to the broader Bay Area, connecting UCSF Health with a network of affiliated hospitals, physician organizations, and partners to expand access to high-quality care. Through distributed ambulatory locations and a network of affiliates, UCSF Health extends its clinical expertise and academic mission to diverse communities while strengthening coordinated care delivery. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or related discipline. Advanced knowledge of healthcare strategy, business development, partnership development, and market assessment. Demonstrated ability to lead strategic planning and growth initiatives within complex healthcare systems. Proven ability to identify, evaluate, and implement partnership and affiliation agreements. Highly advanced quantitative and qualitative analytical skills with the ability to translate market and financial analysis into strategic recommendations. Advanced leadership and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate with senior executives, physicians, and external partners. Strong financial and business planning skills including development of business cases and ROI analysis. Exceptional communication and presentation skills with experience facilitating executive-level strategy discussions. Advanced ability to direct, influence and motivate staff, project team members, senior executives, physicians and leaders at partner institutions. Advanced ability to lead business planning, innovation development, and implementation for a multi-faceted health system. Highly advanced knowledge of strategic business planning, development, and market assessment. Advanced analytical and conceptual skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent verbal and written communication, facilitation, and presentation skills for interacting with executives, providers, and staff at all levels. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in academic medical centers or Integrated health systems. Experience managing healthcare partnerships, affiliate networks, or regional provider collaborations. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or closely related field.
