Join the Ramily! Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is seeking a Director of Student Accounts.
The Director of Student Accounts reports to the Controller and supervises one Accountant and three Account Technicians. This position provides strategic leadership and oversight for the institution’s student billing, receivables, and cashiering operations. This Director will oversee the daily operations to ensure the accurate and timely administration of tuition and fee billing, payment processing, refunds, collections, and account reconciliations. The role collaborates closely with campus departments to promote a seamless financial experience for students and their families while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations. Responsibilities of the Director of Student Accounts include: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for senior leadership and Finance. Manage the full student billing lifecycle: tuition and fee assessment, third-party billing, payment application, waivers, adjustments and collections. Oversee payment processing, payment plans, refunds, collections, and account reconciliation activities to ensure efficient financial operations. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. Monitor and manage student receivables, analyze aging reports, and implement strategies to reduce delinquent accounts and improve collection outcomes. Reconcile student account balances and coordinate closely with Finance. Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in higher education student financial services. Collaborate with key campus partners to ensure effective coordination of student financial services. Serve as a resource to students and families by helping resolve complex student account issues and providing clear communication regarding billing policies and procedures. Position Information

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field Minimum of four years of progressive experience in student accounts, accounting, or similar role, preferably in higher education. Minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations related to student billing, refunds, collections, 1098-T and cash management. Experience with student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner, Workday, Touchnet or similar). Excellent communication, analytical, and customer service skills. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, or related field Knowledge of higher education financial regulations, including Title IV financial aid guidelines and student privacy requirements. Demonstrated leadership, staff supervision, and project management experience. Experience developing and implementing internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and financial integrity. Other Requirements
