This hybrid contract opportunity is based in Davis, CA with a large public research university focused on operational excellence and enterprise process improvement. The role sits within the Office of Business Transformation and focuses on enterprise-wide continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma methodologies and Smartsheet-based project and reporting tools. This is a 12-month contract supporting cross-functional process improvement across administrative, finance, HR, and research administration functions.
This is a highly visible role that allows a seasoned Lean Six Sigma leader to influence transformation across a large, complex organization. You’ll work with executive stakeholders and operational teams to solve meaningful institutional challenges while helping scale continuous improvement capability across the organization. The position blends strategic consulting, facilitation, and training—making it ideal for someone who enjoys building organizational capability while delivering measurable process improvements.

Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field, or equivalent experience
5+ years leading business process improvement initiatives within a complex organization
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification with strong application of DMAIC methodologies
Experience facilitating cross-functional process improvement initiatives
Expertise in Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, Kaizen, 5S, and process redesign
Experience translating strategic objectives into operational improvement strategies
Strong organizational change management experience including stakeholder engagement and adoption strategies
Advanced facilitation and executive communication skills
Experience designing and delivering Lean Six Sigma training programs
Working knowledge of enterprise administrative functions such as finance, HR, payroll, or research administration
Advanced proficiency with Smartsheet including dashboards, workflows, formulas, and executive reporting
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Visio)
Desired Skills & Experience
Experience working within higher education or similarly matrixed organizations
Change Management certification (Prosci or ACMP preferred)
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
Experience working as a Business Analyst or Business Process Analyst in an academic environment
Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools for process analysis, documentation, or operational insights
