Overview Located 80 miles from East Lansing and 40 miles from Detroit, Indianwood Golf and Country Club is a private, 36-hole golf club established in 1925 and the host of three USGA Championships. Assistants will learn the virtues of firm and fast golf conditioning while gaining confidence in management and building the pedigree crucial to career advancement in this industry.

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent (GCS) and Director of Agronomy. Under the GCS’s supervision, the Assistant GCS directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, bunkers, roughs and grounds. Other typical duties include:

Responsibilities

Assists with the management of staff and monitoring of course conditions.

Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of golf course and club grounds; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of equipment.

Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of new fleet equipment

Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment

Participates in the operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.

Performs routine safety and operational inspections on all spraying equipment.

Maintains chemical storage and mixing areas.

Assistant GCS also performs other related work as required.

The position requires a valid driver’s license and current state licensing as a pesticide applicator.
