Collections Specialist

Preserve the credit union's assets by controlling delinquent loan accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments and/or recovering collateral. Strive to find constructive solutions for both the Credit Union and the member when repayment challenges arise. Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Contact delinquent accounts by phone, text and mail; utilize the most effective communication channel; take appropriate action to bring current. Analyze financial situation of delinquent borrowers; take action to repossess collateral when arrangements to bring the loan current are unsuccessful. Make recommendations to repossess collateral when other arrangements to bring the loan current are unsuccessful; Analyze financial situation of delinquent borrowers. Maintain accurate files and reports on all collections activity. Document correspondence in appropriate core system. Inform management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged-off loans. Testify at legal proceedings as required. Perform other job related duties as assigned by supervisor. Employees shall be trained annually, demonstrate an understanding of, and follow the requirements of the BSA/AML Compliance Program as it specifically relates to their job functions. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience: One year to three years of similar or related experience. Education: A high school education or GED. Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Other Skills: Understanding of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Professional phone skills are required at all times. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
