Overview
The Commercial HVAC Estimator is responsible for analyzing project specifications, drawings, and requirements to develop accurate labor, material, and cost estimates for commercial heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning projects. This role partners closely with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients to ensure competitive bids and profitable project delivery.
Responsibilities
Review blueprints, technical documents, and project scopes to prepare detailed HVAC estimates
Calculate material quantities, equipment needs, labor hours, and subcontractor costs
Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes
Prepare bid proposals, cost breakdowns, and supporting documentation
Collaborate with sales, engineering, and project management teams to clarify requirements
Conduct site visits to gather field data and validate project conditions
Identify cost-saving opportunities, risks, and value-engineering options
Consistently update CRM (Pipedrive) to track pipeline and sales activities
Maintain current knowledge of HVAC systems, codes, materials, and industry pricing
Support handoff to project management after bid award
Actively seek new opportunities and participate in networking events
Play a pivotal role expanding our portfolio of clients while upholding the high standards of customer service
Qualifications
3-5 years of experience in commercial HVAC estimating, design, or construction
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, load calculations, and construction processes
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specs, and mechanical drawings
Proficiency with estimating software and MS Office
Strong analytical, mathematical, and communication skills
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously
Mechanical or Construction Management background
Familiarity with building codes, HVAC equipment manufacturers, and industry standards
