Internship Opportunity Position Title: Social Media Manager Organization: Starkville Community Market Duration: Early April - end of October, 2026 Market Season: May 2, 2026 - October 31, 2026 (26 weeks) Compensation: Monthly Stipend
Overview The Starkville Community Market is seeking a creative, organized, and community-minded individual to serve as our Social Media Manager. This internship plays a key role in promoting the market, engaging vendors and customers online, and representing the market in person during 13 Saturday market mornings from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. (out of 26 total weeks). This position blends digital marketing with community engagement and is ideal for someone who enjoys storytelling, photography, and interacting with the public.
Social Media Management
Develop and implement a content calendar for the duration of market season.
Create engaging content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
Capture and edit photos/videos of vendors, products, and market events.
Write captions that highlight vendors, seasonal produce, special events, and sponsors.
Monitor messages and comments and respond in a timely, professional manner.
Track engagement metrics and provide basic performance reports.
Promote special events, vendor features, and weekly highlights.
Market Day Responsibilities
Staff the Starkville Community Market front table some Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. throughout the market season.
Serve as a welcoming presence for customers and vendors.
Provide information about the market, events, and programs.
Assist with vendor check-in as needed.
Capture live content (photos, videos, stories) during market hours.
Help setup and breakdown of the market table.
Additional Duties
Assist with email marketing and newsletters as needed.
Support special events and promotional campaigns.
Collaborate with market leadership on branding and messaging.
Perform other duties as assigned to support overall market operations.
About the Starkville Community Market The Starkville Community Market is a vibrant seasonal market held Saturday mornings in Fire Station Park in downtown Starkville, Mississippi. Each week from May through October, the market brings together local farmers, bakers, and artisans to offer fresh produce, baked goods, handmade items, and more.
