Overview

The Traveling Field Superintendent provides senior-level field leadership for complex heavy industrial construction projects. This role is responsible for overseeing self-performed work and subcontracted trades while ensuring safety, quality, schedule adherence, and operational efficiency across multiple project sites. The position requires extensive industrial construction experience, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to independently manage large field teams while maintaining clear communication with clients, subcontractors, and executive leadership. The superintendent plays a critical role in delivering high-quality mechanical and industrial installations while scaling operations to meet increasingly complex project demands. Responsibilities

Provide on-site leadership for heavy industrial construction projects, ensuring strict adherence to safety standards, quality expectations, and project schedules. Independently manage self-performed construction activities while coordinating subcontractors across multiple industrial trades. Oversee field crews and subcontracted teams to ensure efficient project execution and strong on-site collaboration. Maintain accurate daily project reporting, documentation, and job tracking using Fieldwire or similar construction management software. Coordinate installation activities related to complex mechanical systems including piping, boilers, and HVAC components. Ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within established budgets while maintaining operational efficiency. Build, mentor, and lead high-performing field teams that promote accountability, professionalism, and strong leadership culture. Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and senior leadership to maintain alignment on project goals and execution standards. Anticipate project needs, identify upcoming challenges, and proactively implement solutions to maintain progress and minimize disruptions. Manage field operations involving large crews of direct employees and subcontractors across multiple trades. Lead complex industrial projects with tight timelines and significant operational complexity while maintaining high standards of workmanship and client satisfaction. Qualifications

Ten to fifteen years of heavy industrial construction experience with strong expertise in pipe fitting, rigging, and millwright work. Demonstrated leadership managing self-performed industrial construction projects and supervising both direct crews and subcontractors. Experience overseeing large field teams and coordinating multiple construction trades simultaneously. Proficiency with Fieldwire or similar construction management software for reporting and project tracking. Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and leadership teams. Willingness to travel extensively and support long-term out-of-town project assignments. Ability to work independently and take full ownership of project execution. Strong forward-thinking mindset with the ability to anticipate next steps and manage project progression. Meticulous attention to detail with strong analytical follow-through and problem-solving capabilities. Comfort managing difficult conversations and addressing issues directly to maintain project performance. Ability to multitask across multiple operational priorities while maintaining energy and focus in demanding environments. Twenty years of heavy industrial construction experience preferred. Familiarity with large-scale mechanical installations involving boilers, piping, and HVAC systems preferred. Exposure to project financials including budget adherence and cost management preferred.
