BCS Allegient has a 35-year history of helping government, research, and private sector clients implement their programs and missions to achieve success. We offer a breadth of professional support services in the areas of business management, communications, systems engineering, analysis, mission execution, and organization performance. BCS Allegient is currently hiring a Sr. Cybersecurity Specialist to join our team at the Department of Energy.
- Location: Washington, DC or Denver, CO (Remote eligible)
- Employment Type: Full-time or Subject Matter Expert (SME) / Consultant
- Clearance: Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (active clearance preferred)
- Salary range: $160K-$185K
We are seeking a Sr. Cybersecurity Specialist to support the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Threat Analysis Center (ETAC). This role focuses on analyzing, synthesizing, and communicating cybersecurity threats to the U.S. energy sector, with particular emphasis on securing operational technology (OT), implementing intrusion detection systems (IDS), and critical infrastructure risk.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in cybersecurity and energy systems, paired with the ability to produce high-quality analytic products and communicate complex threat information to diverse, non-technical stakeholders across government and industry. This position is well suited for a cybersecurity analyst or SME who enjoys strategic analysis, technical writing, and mission-driven work rather than continuous operational monitoring.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and incidents impacting the U.S. energy sector, with emphasis on OT and IDS/IPS environments
- Review, develop, and contribute to ETAC analytic products, including threat assessments, technical papers, briefings, and information-sharing materials
- Provide subject matter expertise on cybersecurity monitoring technologies, detection capabilities, and security-relevant data sources
- Support analysis of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) affecting energy-sector systems and infrastructure
- Contribute to efforts focused on securing OT networks, industrial control systems, and SCADA architectures
- Analyze large and unstructured datasets to identify trends, risks, and actionable insights for ETAC stakeholders
- Translate highly technical cybersecurity findings into clear, concise messaging for non-technical audiences, including DOE leadership, interagency partners, and energy-sector owners and operators
- Support ETAC's mission to improve situational awareness, threat understanding, and resilience across the energy sector
- 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, computer network security, threat analysis, or related technical fields
- Experience supporting the U.S. energy sector, critical infrastructure protection, or government cybersecurity programs
- Strong foundation in STEM disciplines and cybersecurity technologies
- Experience building, securing, or analyzing networked systems
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear, well-written technical and analytic products
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (active clearance preferred)
- Experience implementing or analyzing intrusion detection systems (IDS) and/or intrusion prevention systems (IPS)
- Experience developing or analyzing programs to ingest, store, process, and analyze large or unstructured cybersecurity datasets
- Experience securing operational technology (OT) networks and understanding of the Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture
- Experience working with industrial control systems (ICS) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems
- Familiarity with ICS/SCADA communications protocols such as MODBUS, DNP3, PROFINET, and S7COMM
- Familiarity with cloud storage platforms and cloud optimization or security best practices
- Experience serving as a cybersecurity SME supporting federal, interagency, or information-sharing organizations
Why Join ETAC
This role offers a unique opportunity to support DOE's mission to understand and mitigate cyber threats to the nation's energy infrastructure. You will work at the intersection of cybersecurity, intelligence-informed analysis, and critical infrastructure protection, helping translate complex technical data into actionable insights for government and industry partners nationwide.
