JOB STATEMENT
Assistant Producer is a collaborator in the Artistic Department, providing overall department support, primarily in the preparation and execution of Alley Theatre productions.
JOB DUTIES
PRODUCING
- Collaborate with the Artistic Department to ensure the Alley Theatre's vision is clearly articulated and communicated to staff and artists
- Serve as a liaison with other Alley Departments, facilitating communication between artists and staff, facilitating open interdepartmental communications, collaborating on various theatre-wide initiatives, and helping set priorities where necessary
- Participate in the selection and dissemination of information regarding the plays and creative teams for the season, including the Alley All New Festival, and other programming such as workshops, readings, and panel discussions. This includes reading scripts for the Artistic Department
- Represent the Artistic staff as a show-lead on assigned productions
- Compile and distribute weekly Artistic Meeting Agendas
- Take thorough notes during meetings
- Facilitate Alley Chats and/or Designer Talks, as needed
- Attend these production milestones: First Rehearsal, Designer Run and Opening Nights.
- Attend creative concept meetings, production meetings, rehearsals, and previews, as assigned
- Attend all Alley departmental meetings as assigned
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Department on ensuring all marketing materials, production photos, and lobby displays are representative of the organization and specific show's artistic aesthetic.
- Support with Marketing Photoshoot correspondence and attendance, as needed.
- Work with Artistic department on coordinating the Alley's involvement in the University of Houston/Alley Theatre MFA in Acting.
- This may include scheduling, recruitment, teaching, directing, and other means of creative support.
- Additional duties as assigned
- Assist on the coordination and management of all aspects of auditions and casting for all Alley productions, readings, and workshops.
- Attend productions, events, and forums related to the Houston theatre community as a representative of the Alley Theatre and as means for local actor and artist recruitment.
- Upkeep Casting and Creative Artist Database
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Assistant Direct productions as assigned. This includes but is not limited to attending creative concept meetings, production meetings, rehearsals, and previews.
- For productions that include understudies, work with the show's Stage Manager and Artistic on rehearsing and supporting the understudies.
- Attend all understudy orientation meetings
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Support in the journey of script submissions through their full life cycle, including overseeing the script tracking system, currently on Air Table, and managing the pool of script readers
- High-level script reading with a written report, as assigned
- Locate and distribute scripts as requested while maintaining the shared season scripts folder used by Alley staff
- Support writing blog posts for the organization, as needed.
- Assist in reformatting scripts and creating supplemental materials (french-scene breakdowns, glossaries, etc) as needed.
- Collaborate with Marketing Department as a proof-reader and editor for programs, press releases, blog posts, and other marketing materials, as well as contribute to the lobby display content
- Additional duties as assigned
- Minimum of 2 years of producing professional theater and/or theater management experience preferred
- Proficient in artistic criticism and script analysis
- Prior experience of administrative experience in a performing arts setting, preferred
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, energized and quickly changing environment.
- The ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills.
- Detail oriented and able to prioritize efficiently
- Ability to be self-directed and take initiative.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.

- College degree preferred
