Position Summary

The Broadcast Engineer performs highly skilled technical work involving the installation, operation, maintenance, and modification of radio broadcast equipment and select computer workstations and servers that support broadcast operations.
This position ensures the consistent, accurate, and strategic operation of radio automation systems, working independently under the general supervision of the Production and Operations Director and in coordination with Georgia Public Broadcasting engineers. This role also serves as a liaison with the Georgia Center and Facilities Management Division regarding the station's physical facilities and technical infrastructure.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Thorough knowledge of radio engineering operations, including the installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of radio networks and automation systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of FCC rules and regulations pertaining to radio engineering operations.
  • Considerable knowledge of the design and operation of RF distribution systems.
  • Working knowledge of Windows-based operating systems, servers, and broadcast-related software applications.
  • Previous experience with or the ability to learn about Telos Axia or other Audio Over IP (AoIP) digital infrastructure.
  • Comfortable working in CAD/diagramming, Excel, and similar tools.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Willingness to be on call nights and weekends, depending on emergency needs.

  • Oversees the installation, maintenance, and repair of broadcast, audio, and automation systems, including studio and transmission equipment, AoIP networks, servers, computer systems, and security access infrastructure.
  • Works closely with Division and University IT staff to support information systems and coordinates with Georgia Center and Facilities Management Division regarding facility and infrastructure needs.
