Job Summary/Description
We seek a versatile morning anchor to lead our flagship early morning newscast. You'll be the voice and face of WEAU during critical morning hours, commanding audience trust through authoritative delivery, sharp storytelling, and authentic connection with viewers. This is a high-visibility role in a fast-paced environment that demands excellence, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to editorial integrity.
Duties/Responsibilities
On-Camera Anchoring
Anchor AM and Noon newscasts, breaking news cut-ins, and streaming content with consistent quality
Conduct live interviews with newsmakers, experts, and community leaders
Adapt to story changes and breaking developments with minimal notice
Maintain professional on-air presence and delivery standards across all platforms
Newscast Production & Story Development
Collaborate with producers on story selection and rundowns
Develop and pitch story ideas that resonate with viewers
Participate in daily editorial meetings and story planning sessions
Review and approve scripts for accuracy, style, and clarity
Produce newscasts and assist with editing as needed
Contribute original reporting and occasional field coverage
Storytelling & Digital
Write clear, accurate, and engaging scripts in AP style for broadcast, streaming, and digital
Develop sources and build community relationships
Commit to digital-first storytelling, including vertical video and social-native content
Post stories, video, and updates to the station website and social media with audience-focused framing
Collaborate with producers and editors to ensure accuracy and editorial integrity
Community Engagement
Engage viewers across on-air, streaming, social media, and in-person channels
Make public appearances at community events and fundraisers
Respond to audience feedback and adapt coverage based on community needs
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field
Previous anchoring and reporting experience
Strong writing and editing skills with mastery of AP style
Excellent on-camera presence and natural, conversational delivery
Knowledge of newsroom ethics, public records, and verification practices
Ability to work early morning hours
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
