Position Highlights
The School of Art is seeking a professional to provide comprehensive technical management for the Book Arts & Letterpress Lab and the School of Art 2D Print Studio. This position supports the Print and Book Arts studios through effective studio management, safety oversight, and instructional support. The role is responsible for overseeing and maintaining all print facilities and equipment within the VARS building, including the 2D print labs and the Book Arts and Letterpress Lab. Key duties include managing day-to-day studio operations, project coordination, supplies, supervision, and the ongoing maintenance of letterpress and printmaking equipment; serving as the designated safety officer and liaising with the building manager and faculty; supervising and mentoring interns, work-study students, and volunteers; and providing instructional support through demonstrations and trainings that foster a dynamic, collaborative educational environment for faculty and students.

Duties & Responsibilities
Studio Management
- Coordinates day-to-day studio operations, related project management, supplies, and the ongoing maintenance of letterpress and printmaking equipment.
- Works with the Division Chairs and faculty to maintain facilities and equipment required for the print labs effective operation.
- Maintains a current inventory of School of Art equipment and print-focused facilities.
- Orders supplies and equipment in consultation with the appropriate faculty.
- Performs routine maintenance and basic repairs on all print facilities and equipment within established procedures.
- Leads demos and trainings.
- Fosters a vital, collaborative educational experience with faculty and students.
- Ensures faculty and students are practicing proper use of equipment and print facilities.
- Works with faculty & GAs to ensure they are ready to execute demos, or assist with demos when needed and have appropriate setup.
- Assists the designated safety officer by monitoring adherence to safety protocols and coordinating with the building manager and faculty.
- Implements established safety procedures in Print Labs while assisting other SoA areas in conjunction with UA and OSHA regulations.
- Delivers demos and help train lower-level staff
- Provides day to day task guidance and training to students, volunteers, etc.
- Trains and supervises work study students and volunteers.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to lift 40lbs to fulfill orders.
Minimum Qualifications
- BA or BFA in Printmaking, Book Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Publishing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in studio safety and supervising others.
- One year of relevant experience and familiarity with contemporary printing/publishing trends.
- MFA in Printmaking, Book Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Publishing.
