Staff Technical Writer Job at Crusoe in San Francisco

Crusoe, San Francisco, CA, United States

Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack - from electrons to tokens - to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.

We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that - with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.

We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved - people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.

If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.

About This Role:

Crusoe is seeking a Staff Technical Writer to serve as the founding architect of our customer-facing product documentation. Reporting directly to Product Management, you will treat documentation as a core feature of the product, specifically designed for a sophisticated audience of AI developers and infrastructure engineers. This is not a transactional role; you are here to build a scalable documentation practice from the ground up, moving beyond "what" the product does to articulate "why and how" it solves critical AI challenges.

As the first dedicated writer on the team, you will be a pioneer in the field, reinventing the craft of technical writing by leveraging AI tools to increase velocity and improve precision. You will be a key influencer of product strategy, ensuring that from the moment a customer onboard, their journey through our GPU clusters, storage, and networking is seamless, intuitive, and world-class.

What You'll Be Working On:

  • AI-Native Documentation Strategy: Lead the charge in utilizing native AI tools to revolutionize writing efficiency and create scalable templates that empower engineers and PMs to contribute.
  • End-to-End External Documentation: Author and maintain high-impact setup guides, deep-dive tutorials, and knowledge-base articles focused on successful customer onboarding and workload configuration.
  • Cross-Surface Consistency: Ensure a unified voice and logical flow across all user touchpoints, including UI workflows, CLI tools, and API references, reflecting a cohesive developer journey.
  • Technical Content for AI Users: Translate complex infrastructure topics-such as GPU cluster orchestration, high-performance networking, and AI inference-into approachable, practical guidance for technical experts.
  • Functional Foundations & Leadership: Establish the standards, style guides, and best practices for the documentation function. You will drive internal mindshare and lead the strategy rather than waiting for assignments.
  • Competitive Insight: Maintain a pulse on the "Neocloud" landscape (e.g., CoreWeave, Nebius) to ensure Crusoe's documentation remains the gold standard for the industry.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Work as a peer to Product Managers and Engineers, turning complex system designs into clear, actionable documentation that drives product adoption.
What You'll Bring to the Team:
  • Professional Expertise: 5+ years of technical writing experience within a high-growth technology company.
  • Mandatory AI/Cloud Experience: Hands-on experience using cloud services to execute AI workloads or managing AI services. You must intuitively understand the AI developer's user journey.
  • Innovation Mindset: A passion for reinventing the technical writing craft through AI-assisted tools and a desire to simplify the most complex systems.
  • Foundational Ownership: High self-drive and the "spine" to build a function independently. You are comfortable being the sole writer and acting as a technical leader.
  • Product Thinking: The ability to think like a Product Manager, recognizing that documentation is an essential pillar of the overall product experience.
  • Technical Fluency: Comfort with "Neocloud" architectures, high-performance computing (HPC), and core infrastructure concepts like storage and networking.
Bonus Points:
  • Direct Neocloud Experience: Previous experience documenting platforms like CoreWeave, Nebius, or other GPU-centric cloud providers.
  • Engineering Background: A professional background in software development or systems engineering prior to transitioning into technical writing.
  • Documentation Pedigree: Experience at organizations celebrated for having industry-leading developer documentation (e.g., Stripe, Twilio, AWS).
  • Location: While we are open to talent in Seattle or Denver, we prefer candidates in Sunnyvale or San Francisco to facilitate close collaboration with our Product and Customer Success teams.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation
  • Restricted Stock Units
  • Paid time off & paid holidays
  • Comprehensive health, dental & vision insurance
  • Employer contributions to HSA account
  • Paid parental leave
  • Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability
  • Professional development & tuition reimbursement
  • Mental health & wellness support
  • Commuter benefits (parking & transit)
  • Cell phone stipend
  • 401(k) Retirement plan with company match up to 4% of salary
  • Volunteer time off

Compensation Range

Compensation will be paid in the range of up to $130,000 - $157,000 + Bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation to be determined by the applicants knowledge, education, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
