The Opelika-Auburn News has a long history of producing some of the best sports reporting in the nation, as evidenced by numerous past national awards, including the Grand Slam title -- top-10 daily, Sunday special sections, and top-10 website -- and the advancement of former staffers to top-notch jobs on the national scene.

We're in the heart of SEC country and cover Auburn University sports, as well as a vibrant prep sports scene that includes everything from D-I blue-chip recruits down to kids playing ball in little more than a hayfield.

We need a sportswriter who can write with flair and ease for the reader, knows what readers want online and in print, smiles at the challenge of tight deadlines, and can work on a small team in Sports, and hand-in-hand with the News team as needed (we often put big sports stories from Auburn on A1).

Experience with photography and videography is preferred but not required; we offer training opportunities for enthusiastic learners. Previous newspaper/web sports experience is preferred, but entry-level candidates with college success will be considered.

You must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Pay is in the mid-$30,000 to high $30's with a full benefit package available, including 401K. Pre-employment drug screen and background check required; EOE/M/F/D/V
