Position Overview
EHS is seeking a full-time Public Relations Manager to lead proactive and reactive public relations initiatives for the health system to strengthen community engagement, enhance brand reputation, and raise awareness of clinical services and strategic priorities. This role will manage media relations, develop compelling communications content — including speeches for executives and physician leaders — and serve as a key strategic partner across internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Media & Public Relations
- Develop and execute comprehensive media relations strategies to secure positive coverage across local, regional, and national news outlets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, reporters, and influencers to position the health system as a trusted source on healthcare news.
- Act as primary media contact; coordinate media interviews, press events, briefings, and press conferences.
- Respond to incoming media inquiries and ensure accurate, timely information is communicated in alignment with organizational policies and HIPAA requirements.
- Prepare spokespeople with talking points and media briefings.
- Write and edit press releases, media advisories, byline articles, op-eds, thought leadership pieces and other news materials.
- Draft high-impact speeches and remarks for executive leadership, trustees, and clinical leaders for internal and external events.
- Produce compelling narrative content — including videos – to showcase success stories, system highlights to support communication campaigns.
- Work closely with External Affairs to align messaging across social platforms and digital channels.
- Serve as a communications strategist, providing guidance on reputation management, messaging, and brand consistency.
- Support crisis communication planning and execution when urgent issues arise, coordinating response with leadership and appropriate internal teams.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage and public sentiment to inform communication strategies and reporting.
- Partner with clinical and administrative leaders, service lines, and community relations to understand key initiatives and translate them into compelling stories.
- Support internal communication efforts to keep employees informed and engaged with organizational priorities where appropriate.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, English, or related field required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in public relations, journalism, communications, or media relations, ideally within healthcare or complex organizations
- Proven experience writing for executives — including speeches and thought leadership pieces.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong media judgment, newsroom understanding, and ability to work under deadline pressure.
- Ability to simplify complex clinical and healthcare topics for broad audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships.
- Experience with media monitoring tools and analytics preferred.
- Knowledge of Queens/NYC healthcare landscape and media market.
- Experience in crisis communication and issues management.
- Creative thinker with a proactive approach to storytelling and brand building.
