The Digital Content Manager is a full-time role responsible for planning, developing, distributing, and monitoring digital content for the Atlanta City Council. This position manages social media accounts and implements content strategies to increase awareness of Council actions and initiatives. The candidate must have proficient knowledge of AP writing style, online platforms, and social media channels, as well as experience using marketing tools to measure engagement metrics. Strong project management, storytelling, listening, and organizational skills are essential. The role supports strengthening the Council’s brand by enforcing brand guidelines, internal and external messaging, and ensuring transparency.
Supervision Received Works under general supervision and reports directly to the Director of Communications.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive digital and social media strategy that strengthens the Council’s digital presence.
Coordinate with Council offices to create content related to day-to-day operations and initiatives.
Establish and maintain a content calendar for short- and long-term campaigns.
Monitor current events and trending topics to identify opportunities to elevate Council priorities.
Track and measure performance of digital content using analytics tools.
Create engaging content tailored for specific audiences across platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, YouTube).
Ensure adherence to brand and editorial guidelines.
Collaborate with departments and elected officials to amplify messaging.
Travel to events to produce multimedia content (e.g., reels).
Commitment to deadlines and flexibility in working hours.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Keen attention to detail and sound judgment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite; experience with Canva and social media template generators.
Ability to monitor, analyze, and leverage social media metrics.
Experience with CRM tools (Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics 365).
Proficient in photography and/or videography production; strong project management and problem-solving skills.
Ability to multitask and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Education and Experience BS/BA in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, or related field. Minimum five years in communications, including at least three years managing social media accounts for an institution, political campaign, or brand.
Licensures and Certifications None required.
Preferred Requirements
3–5 years of social media management with focus on politics, legislation, or public relations.
Experience in municipal or government entity communications.
Experience developing influencer campaigns and managing livestreams.
Work Environment Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job.
This position follows the City’s hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites/facilities at least four (4) days per week, with the option to work remotely one (1) day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval. The hybrid work schedule is subject to change at any time to five (5) days in-person work.
Lifting Requirements : Light work — Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
