This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.\nResponsibilities (including, but not limited to):\nSupport the lifeguard in maintaining active surveillance of the pool area.\nKnow and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required.\nKnow, understand, and consistently support safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.\nRemain calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.\nMaintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.\nSupport equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.\nCheck the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.\nPerform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.\nQualifications:\nMinimum age of 15\nCertifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration\nCurrent Lifeguard Certification\nAdditional trainings as assigned within first week of work\nAbility to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness\nMust demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards\nWork Environment & Physical Demands:\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The Lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.\nEssential Functions:\nSupports the lifeguard in maintaining active surveillance of the pool area.\nKnows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required.\nKnows, understands, and consistently supports safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.\nRemains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.\nMaintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.\nSupports equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.\nChecks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.\nPerforms chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.\nQualifications:\nMinimum age of 15\nCertifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration\nCurrent Lifeguard Certification\nAdditional trainings as assigned within first week of work\nAbility to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness\nMust demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards\nWork Environment & Physical Demands:\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
