The NJEDA currently offers a hybrid work schedule for up to 2 days of telecommute work from home. To participate, you will be required to have high speed home internet access and a manager's approval. This program does not supersede the "New Jersey First Act", which requires newly hired NJEDA employees to establish and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Responsibilities
Manage a suite of active venture capital programs, including but not limited to the NJ Innovation Evergreen Fund (direct co-investment platform) and New Jersey Founders and Funders (an ecosystem-building event). This includes making changes to programs or designing new programs as needed, and interacting with VC fund managers and portfolio companies. Manage the Venture department’s external outreach and relationship building by attending external events and webinars, presenting the NJEDA’s programmatic offerings, and building relationships with the state\'s Strategic Innovation Centers as they become more active. Provide guidance, mentorship, and developmental opportunities to the Venture department staff and ensure continuity/backups in program staffing. Daily Tasks and Responsibilities: lead a dynamic team in executing initiatives that advance New Jersey’s economic growth agenda; provide expert guidance on venture capital and angel investor programs; act as a liaison with investment panels; shape and lead policy, advocacy, and program management for capital investment programs including venture capital and angel investing. Execute and expand the existing portfolio of capital investment products to increase funding available to New Jersey businesses. Oversee the administration of angel and VC capital programs, ensuring alignment with state goals. Lead the creation and implementation of innovative programs to enhance New Jersey’s economic growth through strategic capital investment. Conduct research and analysis to inform and refine program strategies and decision-making processes. Goals and Objectives
Effectively lead and manage a team to implement initiatives that drive New Jersey’s economic growth. Enhance the capital investment portfolio to increase funding for New Jersey businesses. Key Performance Metrics (KPIs): Grow available capital for businesses year-over-year; ROI and success rate of funded ventures; ensure programs are effectively administered and aligned with state goals; administration timeliness; program satisfaction; number of new programs developed and launched annually; program effectiveness; industry engagement. Collaboration and Cross-Divisional Interaction
Regularly communicate industry insights to internal and external stakeholders; foster relationships with private sector entities, government agencies, and academia; collaborate cross-organizationally to ensure effective communication of initiatives and messaging. Work closely with legal and strategic affairs teams to evaluate program performance and compliance. Represent the organization at relevant industry forums and boards. Reporting Structure
Reports to the Managing Director – Strategic Initiatives & Venture Products. Oversee the Venture Products team, providing direction, mentorship, and performance oversight. Ability to prioritize workload; highly organized, detail-oriented, capable of handling multiple tasks with limited supervision. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications
Technical Skills:
Thorough knowledge of venture capital/alternative fund investment and management; deep experience in fund governance and advisory board oversight; exceptional analytical skills with the ability to present data clearly for executive leadership. Soft Skills:
Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills; ability to interface with senior management, partners, and clients; leadership experience with senior professionals; strong written and verbal communication; familiarity with NJEDA leadership competencies (Talent Management, Cross-Functional Collaboration, Vision-Driven Results, Innovation and Change). Experience:
10+ years in a capital-intensive environment with at least 7 years in a client-facing role; 5+ years of management/supervisory experience;Experience in program and public policy development with knowledge of financial principles and capital markets; experience advising on capital raising (angel and VC) and understanding emerging business models; advanced degree or industry certification may substitute for 1 year of experience. Education
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in business, investment, or finance. Software/Tools Proficiency
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn new software; NJEDA uses Microsoft Office as core platform. Additional Information
Minimal physical demands; ability to work normal business hours; travel as needed for business operations. Certificates And Licenses Required
