Role Overview

We are seeking a Head of Meteorology to join our Commodities team in Houston. In this crucial role, you will leverage your expertise in atmospheric data analysis and weather forecasting to provide specialized, high‑accuracy short‑to‑long‑range forecasts for key energy commodities and regions. You will directly support trading decisions by identifying weather‑driven risks and opportunities, utilizing advanced data modeling techniques, and quantifying the financial impact of weather events on supply chains, renewable generation, and demand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze atmospheric data to forecast weather impacts on energy (power, natural gas), guiding trading decisions.
  • Market Analysis & Forecasting: Generate specialized, high‑accuracy short‑to‑long‑range forecasts for specific regions and commodities (e.g., Gas/Henry Hub and basis locations, Power/ERCOT, PJM, and New England).
  • Trading Support: Work directly with traders to identify weather‑driven risks and opportunities, providing daily briefings.
  • Data Modeling: Utilize, interpret, and manage ensemble weather models, teleconnections, and third‑party weather data platforms.
  • Risk Management: Quantify the financial impact of potential weather events on supply chains, renewable generation, or demand.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience.
  • Experience with defining and implementing data science programs.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts.

Education

  • Key requirements include a degree in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science, proficiency in ensemble modeling, and strong communication skills to translate complex forecasts into actionable trading insights.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree (Master's preferred).
