VP-Director of Media (Pharma Agency)

VP, Director of Media Strategy and Planning is responsible for developing the strategic approach and leading all media activities, including accurate budget control and media activity flow. Working across functional teams, this role leads all planning and delivery of integrated cross‑channel media plans covering digital (programmatic, endemic, social, search) and traditional (TV, print, OOH) media. Responsibilities include full planning cycle from goal setting to budget recommendations and outcome modeling to reach objectives. Lead a team of supervisors and planners, collaborate with the analytics team to align measurement plans, and ensure delivery, optimization, and achievement of client goals. A successful candidate will mentor junior members and drive client success.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strategic thinking for the development, planning and implementation of client media plans, as well as ongoing management of campaigns.
  • Work with the client and senior leadership to establish annual budget and staffing plans.
  • Manage accounts to ensure client staffing plans are fiscally profitable.
  • Identify ways to grow accounts via new partnerships and additional opportunities for media spend and/or fee‑generating activities.
  • Lead the team in developing RFPs, media partner lists and evaluation criteria.
  • Oversee and assist junior team members in planning, execution, and day‑to‑day campaign management.
  • Develop staff through performance management and feedback.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, account, creative, ad ops, strategy, and analytics teams to facilitate implementation and measurement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors, platforms, and technology partners, identifying opportunities for new ideas and emerging technologies.
  • Monitor advertising and healthcare trends, develop client‑facing POVs, test‑and‑learn scenarios, and case studies.
  • Participate in new business pitches and proposals as needed.
  • Supervise 3‑6 team members, developing their skill sets and assigning tasks for career growth.

About You

  • 8+ years of relevant agency experience in media planning and buying across online and offline channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage deadlines.
  • Demonstrated account leadership, initiative, and willingness to assume greater responsibility.
  • Understanding of strategic marketing communications planning and its generation.
  • Experience in producing comprehensive estimates and presenting agency concepts to clients.
  • Clear logical direction on all work orders.
  • Direct experience with pharmaceutical (preferred) and/or healthcare advertising for patients and physicians.
  • Knowledge of media planning and buying, third‑party tracking and ad serving technology, and audience and competitive research tools.
  • Experience with paid social and search strategy preferred.
  • Understanding of and ability to explain full‑funnel media campaigns.
  • Experience within a full‑service agency and/or client side preferred.
  • 3+ years of supervisory or related account management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a related field.
