The Memphis Farmers Market (MFM) seeks one Full-Time Executive Director (ED). The MFM ED should be self-motivated with a passion for local agriculture, food, and community. The ED facilitates a strong connection between farmers and the urban public and fosters community support for the MFM.

Essential Functions

Market Operations

  • Manage all aspects of the Memphis Farmers Market on-site each Saturday during the market season from 6:30am- 1:30pm
  • Maintain necessary market operations permits
  • Manage liability insurance contact and riders
  • Manage on-site facilities, such as repairs, pest control, ice refills, etc.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, sales, products, etc.

Vendor Management and Engagement

  • Manage Vendors through Manage My Market (MMM)
  • During the market season, communicate with vendors weekly and create and distribute the stall map
  • Accept new vendor applications and work closely with Vendor chair and vendor committee to review, approve and finalize.
  • Ensure vendor licenses and affidavits are maintained
  • Enforce and maintain market guidelines, standards, and policies. This should include annual on-farm visits for produce growers and ensuring that prepared foods vendors are using appropriate kitchens for the type of Shelby County Health Department permit, license, or certification they obtained.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteer crew for Saturday markets and special events
  • Send out weekly “Call for Vols” emails and set schedule for Saturday markets

Market Accounting

  • Reconcile and manage cash boxes, square sales, Vendor stall fees and token reimbursements, etc.
  • Create bank deposits
  • Pay all market bills and work with Finance Director and Accountant to ensure financials are in order and the market is functioning within budget.

Market Administration

  • Monitor MFM email addresses and social media inboxes. Respond to or distribute all messages to appropriate staff or board members.
  • Ensure social media channels and website are up to date.
  • Act as liaison with the press for all marketing, interviews, etc.
  • Maintain Google Drive account and transition historical data from Dropbox to Google Drive.

Fundraising

  • Work with Board of Directors to obtain grants and sponsorships for the market.
  • Work with Board of Directors to facilitate all special fundraising events.

Board Relations

  • Assist President of the Board with planning, facilitating and managing Board meetings.
  • Attend all Board meetings
  • Execute any additional tasks as reasonably assigned by the MFM BOD.

Benefits

  • This position is a salaried, exempt status job, with a range of $45,000-50,000.
  • The MFM offers paid vacation and sick time.
