Position Summary The primary focus of this role is to support Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) as the Senior Specialist for the Bothell facility within the Department of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS). As the Senior Specialist you will play an active role in supporting the company’s environmental, health, safety, and sustainability efforts within the Bothell facility to drive long-term company and stakeholder value. The individual in this role will be responsible for supporting the site health, safety and environmental programs in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. This position plays a key role in aligning corporate and local policies and procedures and will foster a proactive and integrated EHS culture that promotes a positive, proactive approach throughout all operations.

Responsibilities

Works directly with Operations and serves as the lead regarding general safety, chemical hygiene, biosafety and environmental management.

Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, safety, medical surveillance and sustainability laws, regulations, codes, rules, and consensus guides.

Develops and implements new EHS programs, policies, and procedures and updates and improves existing ones.

Participates in EHS operational and tier discussions, EHS committees and teams.

Conducts routine safety inspections, GEMBA walks, and audits.

Supports day-to-day activities in one or more operational functions across the Bothell campus (e.g., Commercial and/or Clinical drug substance manufacturing, Site Engineering & Facilities, Warehouse, Quality Control laboratories, and Cell Therapy manufacturing).

Develops, creates, and manages site platforms, databases, and SharePoint for documentation of procedures, forms, SOPs, investigations, reporting, inspections, action items, communications, and other management system platforms and their outcomes in line with quality and EHS requirements.

Develops, maintains and distributes EHS reports, records, and site safety communications.

Conducts root cause analysis for incident/injury investigations and tracks corrective actions to completion.

Develops, maintains and implements the site Chemical Inventory Program and Hazard Communication Program.

Conducts hazard/risk/exposure assessments for current and future processes, equipment, chemicals and new material introductions.

Works within cleanroom manufacturing facilities, laboratories and outdoors at times and complies with GMP gowning and access requirements in these controlled areas.

Supports the Hazardous Waste program including weekly inspections, chemical waste management and creating waste profiles.

Engages in EHS training programs including the development of safety training curricula and facilitating classroom training.

Leads initiatives to promote the B-SAFE safety culture with operational teams to ensure accountability.

Develops, maintains, and implements the Fire and Life Safety program including site fire/evacuation drills and compliance with fire codes and regulations.

Develops, implements, and maintains the site Emergency Response Program including emergency response plans, equipment, and drills.

Supports the Contractor Management Program including onboarding new contractors and vendors, reviewing JHA/PTPs, and providing safety support for site projects.

Implements and supports safety programs for the site (contractor safety management, LOTO, electrical safety, confined space, machine guarding, fall protection).

Provides technical support and oversight as an SME for EHS programs and activities on-site.

Act as the key contact for internal customers, building strong relationships with facilities, operations, management, and cross-functional groups.

Qualifications

Minimum of a B.S. degree in environmental science, chemistry or biological sciences, engineering or similar required.

Minimum 3 to 5+ years of experience working in the EHS field.

Prior EHS incident investigation experience required.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with federal, state and local EHS regulations; experience conducting EHS site training.

Experience with hazardous waste and biological waste management, DOT hazardous material shipping, contractor management, LOTO, electrical safety, confined space, and fall protection.

Working knowledge of applicable EHS governing bodies and regulations (EPA, OSHA, WA L&I, Dept of Ecology, NFPA, etc.).

Strong project management skills and ability to lead multiple priorities with urgency and accuracy.

Knowledge of safety risk assessment design and execution for chemicals, new equipment, materials, or biological exposure; strong root cause analysis and incident investigation skills.

Ability to comply with cleanroom and GMP gowning and entry requirements.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Adobe.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred: GMP-regulated biopharmaceutical, R&D, medical device manufacturing, or laboratory environment; BSL-2 biosafety familiarity.

Working Conditions Typical daily activities are in an office environment, with inspections, audits and GEMBAs requiring movement through laboratories, facilities areas, warehouse, and other areas. Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. PPE required (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, face shields). GMP gowning and entry procedures required for cleanroom areas.

Compensation & Location Bothell, WA, US: $85,710 - $103,865. City: Bothell. State: Washington.
