Program dates : June 2nd, 2025 – End date: August 7th, 2025
Location:
Hybrid (three days per week on-site (Tu‑Thurs) in our NYC office with one day remote). Company laptop will be provided for the duration of the program.
Weekly schedule : 28 hours per week, 9:00am-5:00pm, with a one‑hour lunch break.
Pay rate : $16.50/hour
As a Basic Books Group Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with seasoned professionals and gain hands‑on professional experience as you own day‑to‑day tasks, help with special projects, and attend departmental meetings.
To enhance your work experience, we offer educational sessions featuring speakers from all departments of the company as well as networking and career development opportunities.
Intern Responsibilities include:
Collaborate with and assist the Basic Books Group’s marketing & publicity teams on promotion
Design social media banners, Amazon A+ content, postcards, bookmarks, and flyers
Use a graphics tracking sheet to stay on top of design tasks and meet deadlines
Attend 1-on-1, team, and departmental meetings
Media monitoring
Writing and compiling press materials, including press release and praise sheets
Researching new media contacts and outlets that would be interested in covering our books
Assisting with administrative tasks, including organizing mailings, managing spreadsheets, saving press clips, etc.
Attending department meetings and actively contributing ideas
Requirements
Knowledge of layout, typography, line composition, color, and other graphic design fundamentals
Experience with InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and/or Canva
Strong creative and analytical skills
Strong examples of prior graphic design work
An interest in non‑fiction books
Highly organized and detail‑oriented
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment under deadlines
Ability to learn new software programs
The ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively while also maintaining accuracy
Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment
