Description As a Media Relations Intern in Emory University’s Department of Communications and Marketing for Summer 2026, you’ll become part of a select intern cohort that will be immersed in the higher education communications experience. As an integral member of the Media Relations team, your role will involve engaging in all facets of media communication, from crafting and disseminating press materials and managing media lists to supporting event publicity and contributing to strategic communication planning. This unique internship experience isn’t just about supporting day‑to‑day tasks; it’s about immersing yourself in a collaborative environment, actively participating in campaigns with real‑world implications and seizing professional development opportunities designed to empower your career ambitions.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage media contact lists to ensure efficient communication channels are in place for sharing university news and events.
Draft and distribute media pitches and materials, engaging with journalists and media outlets to promote university stories and achievements.
Write comprehensive media backgrounder documents, providing essential information on university experts to support their media appearances.
Maintain a detailed record of the university’s media presence.
Create a variety of written content including articles, press releases, strategic communications plans, and digital content to support the university’s communication efforts.
Assist with coordinating media visits to campus to ensure a smooth and productive experience for visiting journalists.
Update websites with the latest events and news, keeping the university community and the public informed.
Contribute to Emory’s campus by helping organize memorable university events.
Dive into a wealth of professional development opportunities, broadening your horizons and building your network.
Collaborate on a campaign project from conception to execution.
Qualifications
Available for 20 hours each week during the summer 2026 semester.
Pursuing or recently completed a degree (B.S., B.A., M.A., or M.S.) with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
Demonstrated excellence in writing and presenting.
Strong relationship‑building and client service skills.
A detail‑oriented and organized approach to tasks.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
A positive and professional attitude.
Experience with social and earned media, as well as the ability to monitor both.
Experience with digital platforms and tools such as Cascade and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Experience with media monitoring tools such as Cision, Meltwater and/or Muck Rack.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in‑person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
