Workership Program Qualifications
Candidate must live in Eastern Niagara County (Lockport, Newfane, Sanborn, Cambria, Wilson, Ransomville, Royalton, Hartland, Barker, Pendleton, Middleport, and Somerset.)
If candidate doesn’t live in Eastern Niagara County, they must attend an Eastern Niagara County College. They can live outside of Niagara County but must be enrolled as a full‑time student at SUNY Niagara or Niagara University to be considered.
Job Purpose The Special Events & Marketing Intern position is for a student with career goals in the marketing and event planning fields. The workership exists to support fundraising efforts and is instrumental in helping to promote Niagara Hospice special events and other fundraisers in the community. These coordinated efforts help meet event department goals of creating exceptional event experiences for all participants as well as raise funds to directly support Niagara Hospice patients and families who may be underinsured.
Schedule
May - August 2026
30 hrs. / week
8:30am - 4:30 pm
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with fundraising/non‑fundraising efforts, including event planning, soliciting donations, sponsorships, and secures prizes for raffles, auctions, etc.
Help design print collateral, direct mail pieces, displays, etc. related to the event
Organizes mailing (print and digital) campaigns of past participants to encourage continued participation to annual events
Communicates with outside vendors (i.e. location, rental fees and other charges related to events)
Coordinates purchase of food and beverages, orders supplies and assists with determining and securing appropriate décor (floral arrangements, linens, color schemes, etc.) and any other needed materials consistent with the theme of the event when applicable
Coordinate media presence at major events; assemble media kits as needed
Ensures compliance with all Niagara Hospice policies and procedures
Write copy for news releases, PSAs, newsletters and other collateral
Provide assistance with agency website updates and monitoring social media accounts
Review daily online and print news for organizational coverage and health industry news and themes
Qualifications
High school graduate with valid NYS driver license‑must be enrolled in the fall 2026 semester
Proficient in MS Office applications
Ability to multitask and prioritize requested job tasks
Adhere to all agency policies and procedures including all HIIPA regulations
Able to work some evenings and weekends when/where events are taking place
Working Conditions
No hazardous or significantly unpleasant working conditions
Includes outside venues (exposure to outside elements)
Risks found in typical office setting
Physical Requirements / Dress Code
Periods of prolonged sitting, walking, standing
Intermittent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
Finger dexterity related to typing, using key pads, phones, filing, etc.
Able to lift and bend; exert up to 45 pounds of force
Ability to drive in various weather conditions
Dress in adherence to agency dress code that is provided upon hire
