An international freight forwarder is seeking a Sales Manager for its Air & Ocean Freight Department. This position will be responsible for driving business growth by developing new customers and expanding existing accounts. The Sales Manager will oversee up to four team members and report directly to the General Manager. This role requires a strong sales background in international freight forwarding and the ability to lead business development initiatives while ensuring excellent customer service and operational coordination.
Sales & Business Development
Develop new business opportunities and acquire new customer accounts
Expand and manage relationships with existing customers to grow revenue
Prepare customized proposals and pricing strategies to secure new freight opportunities
Negotiate rates and service terms with customers to close profitable deals
Monitor market trends, spot rates, and competitor activities to adjust sales strategies
Provide weekly sales reports, pipeline updates, and revenue forecasts to management
Visit customers, vendors, and ports as necessary to support business development
Build and develop a high-performing freight brokerage operation and support team growth
Operations & Customer Service
Collaborate with ocean carriers, airlines, warehouses, carriers, dispatch, and operations teams to ensure smooth freight execution
Coordinate with customs brokers and U.S. Customs when necessary
Monitor and resolve customer service issues reported by staff
Communicate delays or service issues to customers and provide solutions
Record and track issues such as late deliveries, claims, or damages in the company system
Manage accounts payable and receivable, including following up on overdue invoices
Assist in collecting outstanding customer payments
Help develop and implement operational procedures and process improvements
Track departmental expenses and ensure operations remain within budget
Support sales initiatives and report department performance to management
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered
3+ years of direct sales experience in air and ocean freight forwarding
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Proficiency in English (spoken and written) required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Valid driver’s license required
