Job Description Trade Compliance Specialist

enables risk to be assessed and managed through focus on Trade Compliance, Operations, Customers and Systems in adherence to the company’s policy and procedures, efficiency, profitability, and continual growth. Supports our Vision and Mission Statement, making our promise real to all our employees and customers.

Compliance

Enforcement of Expeditors’ Customs Export Operational Process Standards, policies and procedures.

Effectively manage and monitor service execution within the Compliance department, leading and assisting our pursuit of efficiency and operational excellence:

Performance Management: Ensure oversight, including self-assessments and monthly performance monitoring so that issues (root cause) are resolved proactively.

Exception Management: Review all exceptions to drive efficiency internally.

Actively participate in the optimization of systems and tools and continuously improve efficiency, productivity and quality of service. Set the tone of this environment within your department.

Efficient management of the Trade Compliance department and consistently execute the DCM Task Audits and activities related to Trade compliance for US and MX as established by CHQ and Regional Compliance Manager. Refer to DCM Task list.

Efficient management of the coordination of the Trade Compliance department initiatives and projects.

Conduct weekly/monthly meetings with operations to monitor process efficiency.

Attend regional and CHQ monthly Compliance conference calls.

Administer and execute the Trade Compliance Program at branch level, according to company objectives, policies and procedures.

Review SOP related to exports and ensure proper backup for 100% compliance.

Ensure branch implementation of products’ OPS procedures as it relates to Trade Compliance Regulations.

Ensure strong knowledge and proper use of all Expeditors systems and tools as applicable.

Support CAPAs related to Export Customs and Trade Compliance.

Perform consistently at the highest compliance level.

Establish annual instructor-led training schedule and facilitate trainings to the branch staff on Trade Compliance processes & regulations.

Facilitate and report government agency visits to Regional and CHQ Trade Compliance in accordance with Expeditors’ Government Visit Guidelines.

Attend local government agency meetings and seminars as needed.

Work with department managers to promote how Expeditors’ Trade Compliance drives efficiencies for customers.

Communicate trade compliance issues, trends and requirements to applicable department managers, as well as Regional Customs Compliance Managers.

Support sales staff and department managers in new business development.

Monitor and improve key departmental District Excellence and Global Business Operations metrics.

Effectively address corrective actions to contribute to operations efficiency.

Escalate necessary issues to Shared Service Manager, Regional Compliance Manager.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field.

3 years logistics industry experience.

3 years’ experience in import brokerage or air import/export, preferred.

Experience interacting with government agencies.

Familiar with Expeditors’ network.

Import Clearance Specialist Certifications.

Import Compliance Specialist Certification.

Broker’s License or commitment to obtain within 18-24 months.

IATA Certification or commitment to obtain within 12 months
