The Social Media Specialist supports Easterseals Southern California’s online presence by creating, publishing, and managing engaging digital content that increases brand awareness, strengthens community engagement, and supports the organization’s mission to provide life-changing disability services. Reporting to the Social Media & Online Community Manager, this role partners with cross-functional teams to develop compelling, inclusive content, maintain consistent posting schedules, write accessible and on-brand captions, and actively engage with the online community across social platforms.
Starting Hiring Range: $29.33 - $36.54 / hr.
Overview Of Position The Social Media Specialist plays a key role in strengthening Easterseals Southern California’s online presence by creating, publishing, and managing engaging, high‑quality digital content that builds brand awareness, deepens community engagement, and supports our mission to provide life‑changing disability services. The role requires strong creativity, organizational skills, and an ability to develop inclusive, mission‑aligned storytelling across digital platforms. Reporting to the Social Media & Online Community Manager, partners closely with cross‑functional teams to develop compelling social content, maintain consistent posting schedules across platforms, craft accessible and on‑brand captions, and foster positive, thoughtful interactions with our growing online community.
Essential Functions
Plans, organizes, and implements posting calendars across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, and other platforms to ensure consistent, timely content delivery.
Develops and writes original, shareable social media content aligned with the Easterseals Southern California brand voice, incorporating SEO best practices and accessibility standards.
Serves as a brand ambassador by actively monitoring conversations, responding to comments and messages, and fostering positive, mission adcentered interactions across social channels.
Partners with internal teams—including graphic design, video production, and internal communications—to produce creative assets, amplify campaigns, and support organization‑wide initiatives with social‑ready materials.
Stays up to date on evolving social media trends and platform features, providing insights and recommendations that enhance engagement, expand reach, and strengthen content effectiveness.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in English, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Media, or a related field.
Experience
2-3 years' experience in a social media role.
Experience with accessibility guidelines, SEO, and social content planning tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Bitly, Google Analytics).
Social media certifications (e.g., Meta, Sprout Academy, HubSpot Academy, Hootsuite Academy, LinkedIn Learning) a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging copy tailored to diverse audiences and platforms.
Strong organizational and time‑management abilities, including maintaining content calendars, prioritizing tasks, and meeting multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to brand, accessibility, and quality standards.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing day‑to‑day posting with longer‑term campaigns and strategic initiatives.
Working knowledge of KPI development and measurement, including defining, tracking, interpreting, and reporting social media performance metrics to inform content strategy.
Understanding of digital accessibility principles, including alt text, captioning, and inclusive communication practices, to ensure content is accessible to all users.
Ability to adapt quickly to emerging trends, shifting priorities, and new platform features, applying insights to continuously improve content and engagement.
Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot posting issues, coordinate timely responses, and escalate concerns appropriately.
Ability to travel with own reliable transportation; maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards; maintain auto insurance and vehicle registration.
Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Easterseals Southern California and/or program requirements.
Must pass all drug testing required by ESSC.
