Adventure Camp Director

Overview Director designs, facilitates, and oversees the Adventure Camp program, including supervision of staff and campers, and developing field trips and activities. The ideal candidate will bring an interest in outdoor recreation, serving as an enthusiastic facilitator and leader for a variety of nature and leisure activities such as swimming, hiking, boating, and other program outings. The program director is responsible for the safety, comfort, and engagement of participants and counselors. First Aid and CPR Certification is required, but can be obtained through provided training prior to camp start date. Wilderness First Aid or similar credentials are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate day-to-day operations for the camp program, including weekly transportation, space maintenance, on- and off-site activities, and staff appreciation.

Inventory, replace, and coordinate supplies before and during camp.

Supervise, communicate with, and mentor camp staff.

Provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for participants.

Provide excellent customer service to parents, guardians, and caregivers through ongoing communication and program updates.

Support the supervision, engagement, and well-being of participants for all activities and field trips, along with program counselors.

Conduct staff evaluations.

Be on site 30 minutes before and after each camp day.

Follow all departmental and state license rules and regulations.

Maintain a safe area and report any deficiencies, incidents, or accidents to the supervisor.

Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

Administer proper First Aid as required.

Participate in the evaluation process.

Position may require operation of City vehicle and/or personal vehicle to conduct City business.

Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.

Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass a motor vehicle check.

Operation of a City vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct City business requires a valid driver’s license and insurance coverage.

Experience supervising staff.

Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs.

Ability to deal effectively with discipline problems, co-workers, and supervisors.

Knowledge of safety principles and practices as they apply to group activities.

Knowledge of a variety of recreation/leisure activities and group games.

A cooperative attitude and a team player.

Enthusiasm, patience, a desire to work with children, and creativity.

Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate must successfully complete a background investigation.
