When Hurricane Helene struck, strategic communications told the story of 40+ organizations coordinating through Aid Arena—recruiting the next wave. You'll manage all public channels, serve as organizational spokesperson during crises, and coordinate with Marketing to amplify campaigns. Build the global brand recognition, enabling us to unite aid providers from local volunteers to UN agencies. As head of an 11-person team, the Communications Officer develops and executes comprehensive communication strategies that build public awareness, strengthen brand recognition, and provide creative services across the organization. This role manages all public-facing channels, serves as organizational spokesperson during crises, and ensures messaging consistency while coordinating closely with the Marketing Officer on integrated campaigns. Key Responsibilities
Lead the Communications team in developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies Develop organizational brand positioning, messaging architecture, and voice guidelines Oversee production of multimedia content, including videos, graphics, podcasts, and written materials Manage social media, website, newsletters, and all public-facing communications channels Serve as organizational spokesperson and manage crisis communications during emergencies Coordinate with Marketing Officer to provide creative assets supporting recruitment campaigns Cultivate media relationships and position leadership as thought leaders in humanitarian coordination Direct content strategy supporting fundraising campaigns and donor communications Ensure brand consistency across all channels and organizational materials Monitor performance metrics and optimize strategies based on engagement data Manage communications budget and allocate resources across team priorities Report to Executive Director and Board on communications performance and strategy Lead quarterly strategic planning and integrated campaign coordination with the Marketing team Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field 7+ years progressive communications experience with 3+ years in leadership roles Proven track record in developing and executing multi-channel communication strategies Experience managing creative teams and coordinating cross-functional initiatives Strong background in nonprofit, humanitarian, or mission-driven organizations preferred Demonstrated success in building organizational reputation and managing public relations Experience with crisis communications and rapid response situations Portfolio demonstrating strategic communications leadership and measurable results Proficiency with communications tools, analytics platforms, and content management systems Skills and Competencies
