Summary Under the direction of the Regional Manager, the Community Living Specialist will perform service coordination and community placement planning, with and on behalf of individuals residing at the State Developmental Center (SDC) under legal commitment. The incumbent will participate in all legal proceedings and ensure that needed and court-ordered services and programming are provided to assist the client in overwhelming barriers to a less restrictive community placement. In addition, the CLS assesses the needs of individuals, finding appropriate resources to ensure success in the community, and crisis intervention using a team approach.

Education & Experience Incumbent will have ongoing knowledge of principles, techniques, and trends of case management. Will be able to effectively utilize and apply required knowledge, establish and maintain effective working relationships, secure accurate data, and records such data systematically. Will also prepare clear, accurate, and concise reports, analyze and interpret statistical data, and analyze situations accurately as well as take prompt and effective action. Will develop a network of social resources, speak and write effectively and work with a variety of people including those of different cultures and lifestyles.

Bachelor’s degree in social, behavioral, special education, or life science

AND

four years professionally related experience; one year preferably working with people with developmental disabilities. A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Substantial equivalents may be substituted for the above requirements.

Valid California driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and adequate transportation to fulfill position responsibility is also required.
