Education and Experience

Associate's degree equivalent to four (4) years of experience

Bachelor's degree equivalent to eight (8) years of experience

This position will provide assistance to Tribal citizen applicants and tenants with the Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation housing programs and maintenance needs. This position will also assist the Housing Department by providing administrative support. The Housing Specialist is part of a team working to further the goals of the Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation.

All Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation employees must submit to a background check and abide by all Tribal, federal, and state laws. All employees must comply with Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation drug free workplace policy and will be subject to pre-employment, random, for-cause, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. Qualified American Indian Preference applies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Possess working knowledge of: (1) HUD housing programs; (2) TDN housing programs; (3) Low Income Housing Tax Credit Programs, and (4) the local housing market.

Provides information on a variety of Housing Programs to the public.

Assist Tribal citizens through the entire housing process, from submitting a complete application through completion of services.

Must understand Federal Statutes and regulations that govern HUD/Housing Department programs.

Provide homeownership, rental, rehabilitation and emergency assistance program counseling for TDN Housing Department citizens.

Assure that appropriate entries are made in all resident, client or property records and files, make sure files are in order and easily useable. Assure that confidentiality is maintained and that files are secured.

Prepares all rental agreements and homebuyer agreements to be signed.

Maintain documentation of activities in accordance with funding agency requirements.

Administrative support as directed by the Housing Manager.

Prepare periodic reports for the Housing Department and implement feedback received per these communications.

Maintain inventory control.

Prepares scheduling of all maintenance and preventive maintenance tasks working with the Housing Manager.

Communicate in a professional manner with all staff and community citizen’s to provide the best service Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation.

Assist with development and establishment of policies and procedures.

Other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required and 8 years’ work experience

Or

Bachelor's degree in public administration, Social Services / Human Services, Business Administration, or Urban Studies / Planning

And

4 years' Experience with essential job duties

2 years in a supervisory role

Current Certified Tribal Housing Professional

Valid state issued driver’s license and/or the ability to obtain a California or Oregon driver’s license. Must be insurable on the Nation’s insurance policy.

Physical Requirements:

Use hands and arms to operate office or field equipment.

Sit more than half the workday.

Stand and/or walk less than half the workday.

Bend, stretch, twist, crouch and/or reach

View electronic monitors for prolonged periods of time.

Use hands and arm for repetitive motion tasks consistently for more than one hour at a time.

Lift or carry unaided less than 50 pounds.

Push or pull using up to moderate force.

See and hear with normal acuity.

Working Conditions:

Work is conducted in a standard office environment

Moderate travel is required (up to 50% of the time)

Work is sometimes in confined spaces and in areas of high noise and/or high/low temperatures
