As a
Level Designer Intern , you’ll shape the spaces where these experiences unfold. You’ll transform ideas into interactive environments that are intuitive, meaningful, and accessible. Your work will help define how players move, think, and grow inside UEV’s digital worlds. You’ll design purposeful, engaging environments by: Creating levels that teach skills, support exploration, and offer clear challenge‑reward flow Designing spatial, visual, and interactive layouts across genres—creative learning, simulation, sports, and casual play Building modular, scalable level systems that work across web‑based platforms and small‑footprint simulators Collaborating with gameplay engineers, 3D artists, and narrative writers to align mechanics, visuals, and story moments Conducting usability testing and refining levels based on player feedback, accessibility needs, and performance data You’ll Learn To Apply level design principles that maximize engagement, clarity, and learning outcomes Balance instructional goals with fun, flow, and player agency Contribute to collaborative pipelines using version control and shared design documentation Build levels in Unity, Unreal Engine, or proprietary editors with a focus on readability, pacing, and intuitive navigation Requirements Enthusiasm for designing meaningful, accessible, and youth‑centered interactive spaces Understanding of spatial design, player progression, and gameplay pacing Exposure to level design tools such as Unity, Unreal, Tiled, or similar editors Ability to translate abstract concepts into playable, engaging experiences Availability for virtual meetings:
Mondays @ 9:00 AM MST Wednesdays @ 10:00 AM MST Fridays @ 8:00 AM MST SkillBridge participants: Thursdays @ 9:00 AM MST
Background in architecture, environmental storytelling, or instructional design Familiarity with design documentation, flowcharts, or wireframing Experience with modular level construction or asset‑pack workflows Interest in esports, youth development, or simulation‑style learning environments Design levels used in classrooms, creative programs, and youth‑focused digital experiences Work on projects involving financial literacy, creative simulations, sports‑themed environments, and more Join a mission‑driven team innovating at the intersection of education, gaming, and youth empowerment Receive mentorship, portfolio guidance, and consideration for a paid apprenticeship Build a robust portfolio of level design work tied to real, published interactive products Help shape the worlds where young creators learn, explore, and thrive.
