Overview Title : Senior Director of Accounting Company : Biotechnology Compensation : $225,000 to $250,000 base + bonus and equity Location : Remote (San Diego, CA preferred)

Our client, a publicly traded biotechnology company, is seeking a Senior Director of Accounting to lead and scale its global accounting organization. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for overseeing core accounting operations, external reporting, and internal controls while partnering closely with executive leadership and cross functional teams. The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting expertise, strong operational leadership, and experience building scalable processes within a public or late stage growth environment.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership across the accounting organization including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month end close.

Own the global close and consolidation process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting across multiple entities.

Oversee all external financial reporting including SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K), technical accounting documentation, and audit coordination.

Manage equity and stock based compensation accounting in compliance with ASC 718, partnering with Legal, HR, and third party administrators.

Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to support SOX compliance and audit readiness.

Drive continuous improvement across accounting systems and workflows to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Partner with FP&A and operational leaders to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis through accurate financial reporting.

Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing accounting team while fostering a collaborative and accountable culture.

Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on accounting policies, financial reporting matters, and compliance considerations.

Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, payroll providers, and other third party partners.

Identify risks, opportunities, and operational improvements as the organization continues to grow.

Qualifications

12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles within public companies or late stage private organizations.

Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, consolidations, and technical accounting.

Experience overseeing core accounting operations including payroll, AP, AR, and general ledger functions.

Strong understanding of equity and stock based compensation accounting.

Proven experience leading month end close, audit processes, and external reporting in a public company environment.

Experience implementing or optimizing financial systems, ERP platforms, or close automation tools.

Strong leadership presence with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

High attention to detail, strong judgment, and a commitment to operational excellence.

CPA required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience within biotechnology, life sciences, or other regulated industries.

Background supporting a high growth or recently public company.

Experience with SOX implementation or optimization.

Exposure to global or multi entity accounting environments.

Demonstrated ability to build and scale accounting processes and teams.
