Overview
Trillium Construction is now seeking a Civil Steel Superintendent for direct-hire in Saybrook, CT.
Salary is $175-250k. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future.
A large civil infrastructure project team is seeking an experienced Steel Superintendent to oversee and manage all on-site steel-related activities on a major Bridge project.
Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the erection of structural and miscellaneous steel including beams, columns, trusses, braces, stairs, railings, and structural connections.
Ensure steel erection activities meet project specifications, structural requirements, and safety standards.
Project Coordination:
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely fabrication, delivery, and installation of steel materials.
Coordinate steel work with other trades
including concrete and structural components.
Site Management:
Manage daily field operations related to steel construction activities.
Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and work sequencing.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct inspections to verify steel erection meets project specifications, tolerances, alignments, and connection requirements.
Ensure all work complies with applicable codes and quality standards.
Scheduling & Planning:
Develop and maintain short-term and long-term schedules for steel erection activities.
Coordinate steel installation sequencing
with overall project schedule.
Safety Compliance:
Enforce site safety policies and promote a strong safety culture among steel crews.
Ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations and jobsite safety standards.
Problem Solving:
Identify and resolve field issues related to steel erection, including design conflicts, fabrication discrepancies, or installation challenges.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain daily field reports, inspection logs, and progress documentation.
Track schedule progress and document delays or field issues as required.
Stakeholder Communication:
Serve as a liaison between field crews, project management, subcontractors, and design teams on steel-related construction activities.

Qualifications
7+ years of experience in civil or structural construction with a focus on steel erection
Proven experience as a Superintendent or Foreman on steel-intensive construction projects
Strong knowledge of structural steel systems, welding, and bolting standards
Familiarity with AISC standards, steel erection sequencing, and rigging practices
Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and specifications
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Experience coordinating steel erection with concrete and other trades on complex construction sites
Experience working with union and non-union labor forces
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software
Preferred Qualifications
OSHA 30 Certification
NCCER or steel erection certifications
Experience working on civil infrastructure projects such as bridges, industrial facilities, or heavy civil works
