The position is not eligible for overtime compensation.**Job Type**Unclassified**Department**Flood Control District**About the Position**The Associate Landscape Designer supports the Branch Manager and team in delivering branch programs and advancing District projects. This role contributes to the planning, design, and implementation of projects that enhance public spaces and promote community and environmental goals.The ideal candidate has experience in landscape architecture, a solid understanding of standard design practices, and familiarity with Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) and Low Impact Development (LID) in public works projects, as well as basic familiarity with irrigation systems, nursery stock, and native desert seed mixes. The position also requires the ability to prepare professional renderings and provide expertise in landscape restoration and construction inspection/observation.Though Maricopa County is in a desert, floods occur during two distinct rainy seasons – the summer monsoon and winter frontal rains. Although the Flood Control District has made significant progress over the years, work remains to be done. Prepare L/A, GSI, and LID details and Specifications* Provide information for and participate in developing and implementing landscape architectural, multiple-use, structural aesthetics, and GSI and LID for flood control projects and associated features* Under general supervision, provide limited reviews of project plans, designs, and other deliverables prepared by consultants and District staff for consistency within the project's design intent and scope of work. Attend project coordination meetings, design comment resolution meetings, and other meetings as needed and directed by the supervisor* Assist in maintaining and refreshing landscape architectural, vegetation management, structure aesthetics, and GSI and LID related design guidelines and standardized design details; occasionally prepares renderings, develops criteria for maintenance of landscaping, GSI, and LID for existing and future District projects, as directed by the supervisor* Conduct limited field reconnaissance to verify, inspect, and photo-document project site conditions and the success of various plantings on project sites. Participate in the inspection of landscaping, GSI, LID, and aesthetic features on construction projects* Manage the Tall Pot tree and plant nursery, irrigation system, and plant inventory, including maintaining the number and variety of plants needed to support projects and other plant demands. This will include hands-on “getting dirty” maintenance activities of the nursery* Ability to educate and encourage the use of such landscape, GSI, and LID elements in developing Flood Control projects**Working Conditions*** Exerting 20 - 25 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly* Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration* The incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel* The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noises, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations.
