Job Description:

About the Role:

We are seeking a Cybersecurity Specialist II to join our Information Assurance (IA) team at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington D.C. This position will require the specialist to ensure the security of our computer systems, networks, and data, and to comply with the Navy Risk Management Framework (RMF) and other compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete yearly EPA-sponsored environmental training and favor the use of energy-efficient, recycled, or reclaimed materials whenever possible.
  • Implement and monitor security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks, and information.
  • Define system security requirements, design computer security architecture, and develop detailed cybersecurity designs.
  • Execute cybersecurity activities, including the implementation and sustainment of Host Based Security System (HBSS), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE), and Microsoft Defender for Identity (MDI).
  • Apply and implement Standard Implementation Guide (STIG) checklists to ensure compliance and support Navy RMF accreditations.
  • Ensure compliance with the latest Force Health Protection Guidance, maintaining vaccination certification and adhering to testing and safety protocols as required.
  • Provide support to NRL field sites within the Washington D.C. metropolitan area and occasionally travel to Monterey, CA, and Bay St. Louis, MS. Travel within the DC metropolitan area will not be reimbursable, while more extensive travel will be billed against the contract.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Final DoD-granted Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in cybersecurity.
  • Two (2) years of experience with Splunk logging tool.
  • Familiarity with the Navy RMF process and procedures.
  • Required Certifications: CSSP or CASP, HBSS, ACAS.


Preferred Skills:
  • Up-to-date knowledge of DoD/Navy cybersecurity policies and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication for interaction with team members and stakeholders.
  • Documentation of processes and procedures.


Working Conditions:
  • The role may involve telework as per DoD/Navy/NRL mandates, with onsite presence required for mission support at NRL's discretion.
  • The position is based onsite at NRL facilities in Washington D.C.
  • Compliance with health and safety regulations, including COVID-19 guidelines, is mandatory.
