About the role:
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Success and Engagement, the Director of the Office of Belonging and Inclusion (OBI) serves as the lead administrator for OBI and the Men’s Success Initiative. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to shape institution-wide efforts that strengthen belonging, identity development, and student engagement—particularly for students identified by the CSU as underrepresented.
The Director will champion culturally responsive programming, advance equity-minded strategies, and collaborate across academic and student affairs to support recruitment, matriculation, persistence, and graduation. This role is ideal for a student affairs leader who brings both strategic vision and operational excellence—and who is passionate about enhancing the student experience for historically underserved communities.
How you will spend your time:
Provide strategic leadership and day‑to‑day oversight of the Office of Belonging and Inclusion and the Men’s Success Initiative
Develop and implement programs, services, and training that promote belonging, inclusion, identity development, and student success
Design and assess culturally responsive initiatives that support engagement, retention, and degree completion
Supervise staff, manage departmental operations, and foster a collaborative, student‑centered team culture
Lead budget planning and oversight, including short‑ and long‑range financial planning and expenditure reporting
Partner with units across Student Affairs, academic departments, the Dean of Students, and community organizations to assess needs and tailor programs and trainings
Represent the Division of Student Affairs on campus‑wide committees and working groups
Plan and oversee large‑scale programs and events, including occasional evening and weekend commitments
Use assessment frameworks and data‑informed practices to evaluate effectiveness and drive continuous improvement
What you will bring:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Minimum of three years of progressive responsibility in higher education, preferably including experience directing a college or university department or program serving diverse student populations
Strong knowledge of student development theory, student affairs practice, and best practices related to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and student success
Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and assessing educational programs and initiatives
Experience supervising, mentoring, and evaluating staff
Strong project management, organizational, and budget oversight skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and training facilitation
Demonstrated ability to collaborate across divisions and build effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders
Ability to exercise independent judgment and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
Proficiency with standard office technology and software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
Valid California Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Sociology, Education, Ethnic Studies, or a closely related field
Experience planning and coordinating large‑scale special events
Familiarity with assessment models, student learning outcomes, and CAS Standards for Multicultural Student Programs
